Our Approach

Parents and Family Partnership

At St Barnabas Pre-School we value parents/carers and families as children’s first educators and their strongest ambassadors.

By working in partnership with parents and families, children thrive and we can be sure that every child receives consistent care and education that is personal to their individual needs. Upon registration every child is allocated a key worker,  this helps them to form secure relationships within the setting and helps us build a close partnership with those at home.

Our friendly staff are always on hand for a chat and we have regular parent consultations for a more in depth look at how each child is getting on.

At St Barnabas Pre-School play and learning go hand in hand. We provide tailored play opportunities to allow every child to grow and develop.

Children learn best when engaged in play of their choosing. To enable this self-motivated learning to flourish we take into account every child’s interest and plan our resources carefully around this.

We offer a variety of activities and equipment each session that cover all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development

  • Communication and Language

  • Literacy

  • Physical Development

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts and Design

Learning Through Play

Child Led
Learning

At St Barnabas Pre-School high quality child led learning is supported through excellent adult interaction, the carefully thought out environment we provide and the varied resources children can access. It is this approach we believe fosters eager, curious and confident children.

Every child benefits from individual support and learning tailored by their key person incorporating the child’s interests, developmental milestones and family’s view.

Your Child's Development

At St Barnabas Pre-School, we believe in observing and supporting your child's development, allowing them to reach their potential and succeed to their fullest.

Observation, Assessment and Learning

Through regularly observing children we gain a unique insight into their world, and can form an accurate individual assessment, to use as the cornerstone for supporting development. Observations allow us to give every child personalised half-termly ‘next steps’. These steps clearly set out how we will support continuous progression. Each child’s individual ‘learning  journey’ is kept up to date by their key person, containing written observations and photos which would be accessed through our online portal, for you and your family to enjoy. These are a powerful tool for supporting development.

Key Person Approach

Every child who attends St Barnabas Pre-School will have a dedicated key person who will remain in place throughout their time with us. The role of the key person is to ensure each child has a strong sense of security and belonging, benefits from individualised learning, and reaches their full potential across all areas of development. Our experienced and highly qualified team will form supportive and nurturing relationships with each child and their family. These relationships mean that children are supported to learn, make friends and flourish throughout their journey with us.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

We are passionate about being an

inclusive setting that truly values every child.

We have a qualified SEND team who will work alongside families to create a safe, enabling and happy pre-school environment for children with additional needs or SEND. Children with additional needs or SEND will have regular 'Individual Learning Plans' put in place to ensure they are making progress and being supported effectively. This will allow us to give the best possible care to the child.
